A single beam of light enters -- the shared problem, the market opportunity, the creative brief -- and a spectrum emerges. The colours that exit bear no resemblance to the monochrome that entered. "The 'self' has many distinct aspects," the text observes. "Creativity is an internal discussion between these aspects of self." When two or more creators bring their distinct prisms into contact, the refraction compounds. the book's deeper claim is that collaboration is not merely additive: "Nothing begins with us." All creative work is already a collaboration -- with prior art, with the culture, with the tools, with the audience, and with the multiple selves inhabiting the single creator.
