# Tune: bolder, quieter, simpler
Read `samanticlab-design` first. Read the project's `<project>-direction.md` if it exists; tuning never changes the chosen direction, only how hard it is played.
## The three dials, and which one you are turning
They pull against each other, so name the dial before touching anything. One dial per pass. If the user asks for two ("bolder but calmer"), ask which comes first, do that, show it, then the other.
- **Bolder** = raise the amplitude of **one** target. Bigger, denser, more committed. The rest of the page stays as it is, or gets quieter to make room.
- **Quieter** = lower the amplitude **everywhere**. Less contrast between elements, fewer competing signals, softer weights. Nothing removed.
- **Simpler** = lower the **count**. Fewer elements, fewer words, fewer options. Amplitude stays; there is just less of it.
Before any pass, write one sentence of what is actually on screen: the real colours, the loaded faces, the layout topology. The pass happens inside that identity.
## Bolder
- The reflex answer, more effects, is the opposite of bold. Reject it first. Bold is commitment, not decoration.
- Pick the one target the user pointed at (a hero, a section, a heading). Raise it: type scale up, colour committed at region scale, one image at the scale it has in life, denser copy or emptier space, whichever the direction calls for.
- If every element got louder, the section got flatter. Bold needs a quiet neighbour.
- The skeleton test: st
