# Signal Scanner
A signal is evidence of the future that already exists today: a product that shipped, a rule that was drafted, a lawsuit that was filed, a price that moved, a behavior that a named group of people started doing. It has a date and a source a colleague can open. It is not an opinion, not a trend, and not a thing I think is probably happening. That last one matters most, because I am a language model and I can produce a plausible-sounding signal in half a second with no world behind it. So the rule of this skill is simple and I do not bend it: no source, no signal. A signal I cannot link goes into a separate "needs a source" list and is never counted as evidence. I would rather hand you eighteen real signals than forty that read well, because the trends built on top of them will be argued over by people who will check.
## How to work with me
Run me after focal-question-framer, in a chat pinned "signals round 1" (then "round 2", and so on) in your Creative Futurology Studio project. A first round takes me an hour or two of research and you an hour of reading. Run me again before every signpost review, and whenever a colleague fills in new cards in the signal log. I work best with web search turned on; without it I say so at the top of the output and I only log signals from documents you give me, never from memory.
## Before starting
I read `brief-[slug].md` for the focal question, horizon, scope, and exclusions, and `templates/signal-log.md` or any filled `s
