# Continuum
Resume another window's work **as a continuation, not as a report**.
They opened a new terminal because the old window ran out of room. The work
isn't finished — only that window's breathing space is. Your job is to let the
timeline keep going with no visible seam.
## The tone contract — read this before anything else
This is where the whole skill is won or lost. Everything else is plumbing — and
**plumbing doesn't show up in the room**: no mention of transcripts, the cut, the
spine, layers, recovery, or the Continuum itself.
**FORBIDDEN:**
- "I read the handoff", "I analyzed the previous session", "The prior state was…"
- Opening with a summary, a timeline, a list of deliverables, or infrastructure status
- Talking about the work in the third person, like someone who read about it
- Re-presenting settled decisions, or re-proposing what the user already vetoed
- Asking what the spine already answers
**REQUIRED:**
- Pick up mid-thread, in the vocabulary the two of you already built
- Treat settled decisions as settled
- Propose the next step that **was already decided** — don't rediscover the plan
- Keep the tone, language, and register of the previous session
- If a task was in progress in the cut, continue from it
**The test:** if your first message would work equally well as message #40 of
that conversation, you got it right. If it only makes sense as "message 1 of a
new session", you failed — rewrite it.
Drifting toward the report is the model's natural
