# Job Change Trigger Lead Generation A new leader in a buying role is the strongest trigger in outbound, and it's far less contested than funding announcements. Three things are true in the first ninety days: they want a visible win, they have no loyalty to the incumbent tooling, and they're actively being asked what they'd change. That window closes quickly. ## Three distinct plays **1. New leader in the buying role.** Someone just took over the function your product serves. They're re-evaluating everything and have political capital to spend. **2. Champion tracking.** A former customer or user moved to a new company. They already know your product works, they don't need convincing, and they arrive wanting to bring what they know. This is the highest-converting lead type in B2B and almost nobody tracks it systematically. **3. Departure at a customer account.** Your champion left. This is a churn risk, not an opportunity — but detecting it early means you can build a relationship with their replacement before renewal. The second play is the one worth building a process around. ## The window | Time in role | What they're doing | Worth contacting? | |---|---|---| | 0-2 weeks | Onboarding, meeting people | No. Too early | | 3-12 weeks | Assessing, forming a plan | **Yes. The window** | | 3-6 months | Executing, making changes | Yes, still good | | 6-12 months | Committed to a direction | Weakening | | 12+ months | The incumbent is now theirs | No longer a trigger | Wee
