# Managing the Brand-Identity Process
## Overview
One universal process underlies every successful branding initiative, regardless of client or complexity. **The process stays the same — what changes is the depth of each phase, the time and resources allocated, and the size of the team on both firm and client sides.** It is defined by distinct phases with logical beginnings and endpoints that enable decision making at the right intervals; eliminating or reordering steps to save time or money poses substantial risk. This is the project-management and orchestration layer beneath the five phase-specific skills.
## When to use
- Scoping, estimating, or kicking off a brand-identity project (new brand or rebrand).
- Deciding whether the organization is ready to invest, and who should lead.
- Setting up project-management, decision-making, and IP protocols.
- Defining how success will be measured.
- **Hand off to the phase skills** for the *how* of each phase: `conducting-research`, `clarifying-strategy`, `designing-identity`, `creating-touchpoints`, `managing-assets`.
