# Creating Touchpoints (Phase 4)
## Overview
Phase 4 is design development, extension, and refinement: the identity concept is approved, and the work becomes applying it across every touchpoint. The core challenge is to "design the right balance between flexibility of expression and consistency in communications" — one unique visual language expressed across all applications, working in harmony regardless of medium.
## When to use
- The design concept is approved and applications must now be designed and produced.
- You are working on a specific touchpoint (website, packaging, signage, etc.) and need its key brand consideration.
- Applications look inconsistent or were produced without a unified system.
- NOT for earlier phases — strategy/brand brief (Phase 2) or concept design/testing (Phase 3) precede this; standards and guidelines are documented after (Phase 5).

2. **Write the creative brief.** Only after the brand brief is approved; must be signed off by key decision makers before any creative work. Synthesizes team goals, communications goals, the critical application list, functional/performance criteria, positioning, protocols, and documentation system.
3. **Prioritize and produce applications.** Organize
