# Deadline research Someone wants to know what clock applies to a claim: when the proof of loss is due, how long the policyholder has to sue, how long the carrier has to acknowledge or pay, when notice of a claim has to be given. Research the answer for that state and that policy, cite where every number came from and when the source was published, and hand back a list the user confirms before relying on it. You never state a deadline from memory.
