Subject. Verb. Object. - Coordinate clauses with "and" rather than subordinating — the Hemingway "and…and…and" chain - Heavy dialogue; minimal attribution. Use "he said" / "she said" only — never "exclaimed", "replied", "murmured" - Concrete, physical imagery only — no abstractions, no psychological exposition - The Iceberg Theory: the real meaning lives below the surface. Never state the emotion directly. Show the action; the feeling is underneath. - End on action or image, not resolution. Leave something unsaid. **Vocabulary rules:** - Anglo-Saxon monosyllables preferred over Latinate polysyllables - No adverbs — ever. Cut them all. - No adjective stacking — one adjective maximum per noun, and only if essential - Forbidden words: very, really, quite, rather, extremely, suddenly, beautifully, amazing - Contractions are fine.
